"Plano de Praia do Ancão e das ligações ao Ludo e ao Garrão" Work
The work " Plano de Praia do Ancão e das ligações ao Ludo e ao Garrão ", currently in progress, is part of a wider intervention, which aims to establish a pedestrian and cyclable connection between Quinta do Lago (Ludo) and Quarteira - whose second phase, connecting Garrão to that city, will start in the future.
The project that originated this work was developed by the Municipality of Loulé, and its execution was assigned to Polis Litoral Ria Formosa, S.A., a company with public capital with the majority participation of the State and a minority of the municipalities of Loulé, Faro, Olhão and Tavira, specialized in the execution of integrated operations of rehabilitation and valorization of the coastal area, included in the Polis Litoral Program.
This intervention aims to regulate and order the use of an existing trail, which connects the area of Ludo to Praia do Garrão, and is currently the target of intense use throughout the year, in conditions that often conflict with the sensitivity of the present natural values.
In addition, the "Plano de Praia do Ancão" will be implemented, which intends to adapt the access and parking conditions on that beach to the carrying capacity of the ecosystem, which has been exceeded until now, in clear detriment to the environmental values and resources of this sensitive area.
For that purpose and without changing the nature of its use, the layout of this trail will be adjusted, using stabilized red sand clay, in areas where it is possible to use the existing path, which allows to minimise the environmental impact. On sections where it is necessary, due to safeguard reasons of natural values, accessibility and safety of users, wooden walkways will be used, which are intended for pedestrian use only and soft mobility. Access to motorised vehicles will be forbidden through physical barriers that allow only pedestrians, bicycles, wheelchairs, prams and similar. Additionally, will be created a rest, stay and contemplation areas.
This project has been approved by a set of entities, including the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission, the Portuguese Environment Agency and the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests, which ensure full compliance with current environmental legislation. In addition, the work carried out is subject to environmental, occupational safety and hygiene supervision.
The deadline for completion of the entire work is November 2020, and the work on Ancão Beach has already been completed, with the regularisation of the car parks, allowing the normal - within the overall constraints - operation of the bathing season.
