Infraquinta promotes environmental education action with E.B. São Lourenço school
Infraquinta received during the last week the visito f several students of E.B. São Lourenço school, Almancil, in its facilities.
This visit followed na invitation from Infraquinta addressed to the school, with the support of the Municipality of Loulé.
With this action, Infraquinta aimed to introduce youngsters, in a playful and pedagogical way, to good practices and to provide a direct contact with the reality of a Management Entity in the water sector.
Infraquinta considers environmental education fundamental so that the young, from na early age, acquire knowledge, become aware and can participate and contribute to environmental sustainability.
This visit focused on yhe them “The urban water sycle”, which included a fieldtrip to the Quinta do Lago water reservoir and the possibility for students to carry out water analyzes.
For 2019, more visits are scheduled, with the same students, emphasizing other areas of competence of Infraquinta, E.M. .
The youngest also left their contribution about the visit.
“On December 4, 2018, the students of EB São Lourenço school visited Infraquinta's facilities, within the scope of an Environmental Education Activity – The Water.
At the beginning of the visit the Infraquinta technicians introduced themselves.
Then, the students visualized images of the Urban Water Cycle and the monitoring of the water reservoirs and respective pumps of Quinta do Lago. They explained that there were seven pumps but only the necessary pumps were working. On the screen was a working pump (represented by green color and six ready to run yellow). It was also possible to check the water level in the reservoirs.
Meanwhile, they went to watch the operation of a water meter. They could see that when the tap was opened too much the water meter went faster. They have been warned of the importance of saving water, as it is an essential natural resource for life.
The technicians explained that they do several water analyzes to make sure they are good to drink. One of the analyzes shown was the chlorine test, the students helped to do the chlorine test and found out that the more chlorine the water has, the more pink it gets when the test powder is added.
In the middle of the morning, the students were surprised with a healthy snack (sandwiches, fruit and water from the tap), to which they were quite happy. They were also satisfied with the proposed plastic expression activity, which called for the Sustainability of Water.
Then the visitors went to the water reservoir, where they saw the pipes and the pumps working.
The students showed great interest and sympathy during the visit, were participative, systematically asking pertinent questions.
At the end of the visit, the students affectionately said goodbye, saying "We enjoyed the visit! See you next time!" "
